The original English Windsor Chair has traveled extensively throughout the centuries, first coming to America in about 1726. Several stylistic adaptations and structural forms have evolved, including the Windsor Bench and Windsor Stools. In fact, stools were much more common in early Colonial homes, and also the later homes of pioneering times, than were chairs. The term "Father's Chair" may hearken back to the time when Father's chair was the only chair in the house.
This Amish Heritage Colonial Arrow Back Bow Back Windsor Counter Stool is modeled on an original Arrow-Back adaptation of the Classic Bow-Back Windsor "Form". It's arrow-shaped spindles present a flat profile for increased comfort. By using 100% premium American hardwood components combined with modern glues and a range of quality finishes (see thumbnails above) it actually surpasses the beauty and durability of those original chairs and stools.
Characterized by a comfortably dished thick hardwood seat, maximum stability and durability is ensured by Colonial-style carved leg turnings that are driven deeply into the seat, and well braced by gracefully turned stretchers.
