The original English Windsor Chair has traveled extensively throughout the centuries, first coming to America in about 1726. Since then, several stylistic and structural adaptations have evolved including Arrow-Back, Bow-Back, Comb-Back, Fan-Back, Paddle-Back, Sack-Back, Wheat-Back, and many other Windsor Chair varieties. The original Birdcage Windsor chair hearkens back to New England circa 1810, where popularity had shifted from the bow-backed Windsor chairs to those having a square-shaped back with the characteristic dainty-looking 'bamboo-style' turnings that give this chair style its name.

This Amish Heritage Birdcage Windsor Side Chair is an adaptation of the original Birdcage Windsor chairs. By using 100% premium American hardwood components combined with modern glues and a range of quality finishes (see thumbnails above) it actually surpasses the beauty and durability of those original birdcage chairs.

Characterized by elegant and deceptively strong spindles with beautifully matched turnings, and legs that are driven deeply into the seat for maximum stability and durability. Comfortable back support is ensured by the use of 7 ergonomically arched back spindles.
