Shaker Armoires have long been admired for their simple elegance and excellent durability. In the late 1700's several religious communities of the Society of Believers in the Second Coming of Christ sprang up along the eastern seaboard of the US. Known as Shakers for their worship exercises, they have since become famous for the material results of their religious fervor.
Initially, Shaker furniture was made only for use within the Shaker community, but the simple beauty of these early Shaker pieces soon became broadly recognized, and publicly available. The outstanding characteristics of Shaker-inspired furniture are mostly straight lines, right angles, the occasional gentle arch, and a simple elegance in absence of intricate ornamentation.
This Amish Heritage Shaker Armoire follows a true masterpiece of Shaker cabinet design and is typical of the large furniture pieces of the style. By using 100% premium American hardwood components combined with modern glues and a range of quality finishes (see thumbnails above) it actually surpasses the beauty and durability of the original Shaker Armoire.
Characterized by straight lines, generous moldings, and well-proportioned doors and side panels that present an overall picture of harmony. Two large drawers, two smaller ones, and ample shelf area are concealed behind the full-length doors providing plenty of storage space. The cabinet can alternatively be fitted with a hanging rod (making it a Shaker 'Clothes Press' or 'Wardrobe').
