The Pencil Post Bed was thus named after it's signature array of tall slender posts. These beds were originally developed when houses were poorly heated and essentially uninsulated. The tall bed posts provided support for a fabric canopy and side hangings which protected the occupants from the frosty drafts that often swept through their bed chambers. Whether you choose to compliment it with an optional canopy and hangings or not, the pencil post bed can provide a very real piece of early American history in your home.

This Amish Heritage Shaker Pencil Post Bed features clean lines and simple appeal with it's well-proportioned turned posts, topped with delicately carved Shaker finials.
