Queen Anne Style: The English took an originally Dutch furniture style, adapted it, and the short-reigning British Queen Anne (r.1702-1714) gave her name to the resulting furniture style. From England the Queen Anne Style crossed the Atlantic to her New World Colonies, where it underwent further transformation. Queen Anne Style prevailed in the English Colonies from about 1720 until well into the Chippendale era which began in the mid-1750's. Typical elements of Queen Anne style include cabriole legs, repeated use of the "cyma" curve, and a gracefulness of construction which stood in contrast to the blockier furniture of the preceding William and Mary style.

Anyone who has toured our historic homes will have noticed that the Highboy has occupied a place of distinction in the bed chambers of our most prestigious families for many generations. Additionally, many houses featured a highboy in the parlor, nor should you limit this beautiful and flexible furniture piece to sole use in the bedroom. With multiple drawers of various sizes, it will provide considerable and elegant storage capacity wherever it is placed.

Originally developed from the Lowboy ("chest-on-a stand") with a second chest added above, the Highboy has become one of our most popular furniture pieces, known in England by the wordy term "tall chest-of-drawers on a stand". The design originally developed to allow one to open the lower drawers without having to bend over. It was also popular with one's staff, as it allowed them to clean under it with ease.

Heirloom quality case goods are always beautiful pieces of furniture. Straight lines, generous moldings, and well-proportioned shapes present an overall picture of elegance, and though less ornate than its "Bonnet-Topped" cousin (the Queen Anne Pediment Highboy), this Queen Anne Flat-Top Highboy can add graceful storage to today's most refined homes.

This Genuine Queen Anne Flat-Top Highboy Makes A Beautiful And Functional Storage Chest That Will Fit Beautifully Beside Your Other Fine Furniture Of This Era & Style

The original Queen Anne furniture pieces were built to last by caring men who thoroughly understood their tools, materials and craft. Today, our dedicated Mennonite & Amish furniture makers undergo a long apprenticeship to develop keen eyes and skilled hands, and these expert craftsmen enjoy building Your legacy quality furniture with the same unhurried care - providing you with exceptional furniture and outstanding value.
