Amish Classic Queen Anne Westminster Round Topd Windsor Side Chair - SKU#3740
Windsor Chairs represent a high point in the landscape of furniture design & construction. The original English Windsor Chair has traveled extensively throughout the centuries, first coming to America in about 1726. After this time, the English Windsors differed from their North American counterparts in various details, as several stylistic and structural adaptations evolved on each side of the Atlantic.
This Amish Classic Queen Anne Westminster Round Top'd Windsor Side Chair is a faithful reproduction of an original eighteenth-century English bow-back Windsor design, produced in the Westminster area of London. Note the backsplat, ornamented with pierced openings (as made popular by Chippendale, circa 1760). Strong Queen Anne influence is seen in the cabriole front legs, which are connected by a horseshoe stretcher, with knee brackets to the turned back legs. By using 100% premium American hardwood components combined with modern glues and a range of quality finishes (see thumbnails above) this reproduction piece actually surpasses the beauty and durability of the original English bow-back chairs.
Characterized by a traditional back style, a comfortably dished seat, and strongly attached and braced legs for maximum stability and durability. Comfortable back support is ensured by the use of the 4 back spindles and the center pierced slat.
