Amish Classic Mission Prairie Arm Chair With Wood Seat - SKU#3630-A

Mission Chairs feature an elegant yet robust appeal that have endeared them to successive generations throughout time. The origins of the Mission Chair can be traced back to the European "Arts & Crafts" movement of the late 1880's, which strove to create an unpretentious alternative to the ornate Victorian era furniture. The style was popularized in America in the early years of the twentieth century by the craftsman, Gustav Stickley, who particularly specified the use of 'quarter sawn' wood, primarily due to its improved resistance to checking, warping & splitting, but also due to its much sought after 'fleck' and 'stripe' grain pattern.

This Classic Mission Prairie Chair is a reproduction antique piece, faithfully following a true masterpiece of early furniture design. By using 100% premium American quarter sawn white oak or cherry hardwood components, combined with modern glues and finishes, it actually surpasses the beauty and durability of the original chair that it is modeled upon.

Characterized by straight lines, right angles, rectangular shapes, and ornamentation derived from the construction itself, the chair was designed for a simple elegance with stability and durability. Comfortable back support is ensured by the use of flat-profile slats that tie into the steam-bent top and bottom rails. The hardwood seat is fashioned for comfort, although upholstered cushioned seats are also available on this chair.

You Can Certainly Find More Expensive Seating, But We Truly Believe That This Heirloom Quality Chair Is Simply The Very Best Mission Prairie Arm Chair That Money Could Ever Buy!

The Mission Chairs of yore were built to last by caring men who thoroughly understood their tools, materials and craft. Today, our dedicated Mennonite & Amish furniture makers undergo a long apprenticeship to develop keen eyes and skilled hands, and these expert craftsmen enjoy building Your legacy quality seating with the same unhurried care - providing you with exceptional furniture and outstanding value.
