Amish Classic English Windsor Arm Chair - SKU#3320-A
Windsor Chairs represent a high point in the landscape of furniture design & construction. The original English Windsor Chair has traveled extensively throughout the centuries, first coming to America in about 1726. Since then, several stylistic and structural adaptations have evolved including Arrow-Back, Bow-Back, Comb-Back, Fan-Back, Paddle-Back, Sack-Back, Wheat-Back, and many other Windsor Chair varieties.
This Amish Classic English Windsor Arm Chair is a reproduction antique piece, faithfully following a true masterpiece of early furniture design. By using 100% premium American hardwood components combined with modern glues and a range of quality finishes (see thumbnails above) it actually surpasses the beauty and durability of the original English Windsor chair.
Characterized by deeply carved turnings, a comfortable dished seat (also available in a contrasting finish), and legs that are driven deeply into the seat for maximum stability and durability. Typical of the period, the front legs are connected by a cow-horn stretcher, with knee brackets bracing them to the back legs. Comfortable back and arm support is ensured by the use of 9 ergonomically arched back spindles and 4 arm spindles on each side.
