Amish Classic Colonial Sack Back Windsor Arm Rocking Chair - SKU#3850-R

Windsor Chairs represent a high point in the landscape of furniture design & construction. The original English Windsor Chair has traveled extensively throughout the centuries, first coming to America in about 1726. Since then, several stylistic and structural adaptations have evolved including Arrow-Back, Bow-Back, Comb-Back, Fan-Back, Paddle-Back, Sack-Back, Wheat-Back, and many other Windsor Chair varieties. The original Sack-Back Windsor chair was so-named because a bag or sack was slipped over the top bow to halt drafts in houses that were less well-sealed than today's.

This Amish Classic Sack-Back Windsor Rocking Chair is modeled on the Classic Sack-Back Windsor Arm Chair - a reproduction antique piece, faithfully following a true masterpiece of early furniture design. By using 100% premium American hardwood components combined with modern glues and a range of quality finishes (see thumbnails above) it actually surpasses the beauty and durability of the original sack-back chair.

Characterized by deeply carved turnings, a comfortably dished seat, and legs that are deeply socketed into the seat for maximum stability and durability. Comfortable back and arm support is ensured by the use of 9 ergonomically arched back spindles and 3 arm spindles on each side.

You Can Certainly Find More Expensive Seating, But We Truly Believe That This Heirloom Quality Chair Is Simply The Very Best Sack-Back Windsor Rocking Chair That Money Could Ever Buy!

Windsor chairs of the Colonial and Federal periods were built to last by caring men who thoroughly understood their tools, materials and craft. Today, our dedicated Mennonite & Amish furniture makers undergo a long apprenticeship to develop keen eyes and skilled hands, and these expert craftsmen enjoy building Your legacy quality seating with the same unhurried care - providing you with exceptional furniture and outstanding value.

Mennonite Furniture Studios Amish Classic Sack-Back Windsor Arm Rocking Chair Features

Note with us a few of the outstanding features which make this Classic Sack-Back Windsor Rocking Chair such a popular and enduring piece:

  • Classic Beauty In Your Home - with graceful curves, bold angles, and a deeply scalloped seat that justifies the name - "saddle". The legs and arm-posts, dating from the latter half of the eighteenth century, display a crispness and definitiveness in their outstanding baluster, cove, and ring turnings. This Classic Windsor Chair conveys a sense of history and a tangible connection to our past. It will fill a place of distinction in any room of your home. It simply looks right!
  • Supremely Comfortable - with generously dished seat and spindles that appear delicate, but combine strength and springiness for unmatched comfort in an all-wooden chair. The wrap-around arms provide support and a secure feeling. In short, you'll want to sit and rock a while!
  • Extreme Durability, With Very Low Maintenance - built with solid hardwood materials and superior mortise-and-tenon construction, designed to endure for generations. Although many lesser colonial chairs were originally made with soft pine seats (for ease of working), all of our chairs use solid oak, cherry, or maple seats for added beauty and durability. Leg and arm-post tenons are long, passing through the seat and arms, and secured in place by Hickory wedges.

Whether you choose a solid black finish or a semi-transparent stain finish (Order oak, cherry or maple hardwood samples to see our range of finish colors in Your home), this beautiful reproduction antique rocking chair has a smooth, durable varnish top-coat which brings out the natural beauty of the wood but resists water and most common household chemicals to minimize care and maintenance. Easy Wipe Clean - No Polish Needed!
