Amish Classic Colonial Fan Back Windsor Side Chair - SKU#3330

Windsor Chairs represent a high point in the landscape of furniture design & construction. The original English Windsor Chair has traveled extensively throughout the centuries, first coming to America in about 1726. Since then, several stylistic and structural adaptations have evolved including Arrow-Back, Bow-Back, Comb-Back, Fan-Back, Paddle-Back, Sack-Back, Wheat-Back, and many other Windsor Chair varieties. The original Fan-Back Windsor chair was so named due to it's obviously fan-shaped back support.

This Amish Classic Fan-Back Windsor Side Chair is a reproduction antique piece, faithfully following a true masterpiece of early furniture design, circa 1797. That highly accoladed original chair was produced by Beriah Green in New London County, Connecticut. By using 100% premium American hardwood components combined with modern glues and a range of quality finishes (see thumbnails above) this reproduction piece actually surpasses the beauty and durability of Green's original fan-back chair.

Characterized by deeply carved turnings, a comfortably dished seat, and legs that are deeply socketed into the seat for maximum stability and durability. Comfortable back and arm support is ensured by the use of 2 posts and 9 ergonomically arched back spindles.

You Can Certainly Find More Expensive Seating, But We Truly Believe That This Heirloom Quality Chair Is Simply The Very Best Fan-Back Windsor Side Chair That Money Could Ever Buy!

Windsor chairs of the Colonial and Federal periods were built to last by caring men who thoroughly understood their tools, materials and craft. Today, our dedicated Mennonite & Amish furniture makers undergo a long apprenticeship to develop keen eyes and skilled hands, and these expert craftsmen enjoy building Your legacy quality seating with the same unhurried care - providing you with exceptional furniture and outstanding value.

Mennonite Furniture Studios Amish Classic Fan-Back Windsor Chair Features

Note with us a few of the outstanding features which make this Classic Fan-Back Windsor Chair such a popular and enduring piece:

  • Classic Beauty In Your Home - with graceful curves, bold angles, and a deeply scalloped seat that justifies the name - "saddle". The legs, dating from the latter half of the eighteenth century, display a crispness and definitiveness in their outstanding baluster, cove, and ring turnings. This Classic Windsor Chair conveys a sense of history and a tangible connection to our past. It will fill a place of distinction, not only in Your dining room, but also as an accent piece in the parlor, great room, or library. It simply looks right!
  • Supremely Comfortable - with generously dished seat and spindles that appear delicate, but combine strength and springiness for unmatched comfort in an all-wooden chair. In short, you'll want to sit a while!
  • Extreme Durability, With Very Low Maintenance - built with solid hardwood materials and superior mortise-and-tenon construction, designed to endure for generations. Although many lesser colonial chairs were originally made with soft pine seats (for ease of working), all of our chairs use solid oak, cherry, or maple seats for added beauty and durability. Leg and arm-post tenons are long, passing through the seat and arms, and secured in place by Hickory wedges.

Whether you choose a solid black finish or a semi-transparent stain finish (Order oak, cherry or maple hardwood samples to see our range of finish colors in Your home), this beautiful reproduction antique chair has a smooth, durable varnish top-coat which brings out the natural beauty of the wood but resists water and most common household chemicals to minimize care and maintenance. Easy Wipe Clean - No Polish Needed!
